Crime and violence can have a devastating effect on family life, community cohesion and the stability of the economy, which makes understanding and combatting them imperative.

We believe that South Africans can expect upward pressure on South Africa’s security environment over the next 12 months, primarily related to the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic and the severity of the nationwide lockdown. The lockdown has severely disrupted economic activity, and around two million jobs are projected to be lost over 2020. This will place significant pressure on livelihoods, exacerbating security risks.

While the overall security risk is not expected to deteriorate over the next few months, the longer- term prediction is that the situation will worsen with an increase in armed robbery, carjacking and residential break-ins.

Crime prevention in South Africa requires collaboration between the many practitioners who work in this field, from the government to civil society. While it is the obligation of the state to guarantee its citizens’ right to safety, all role-players need to share the responsibility to protect and contribute to safety and security at a local level.

Against the backdrop of this challenging environment, and in BGA’s endeavour to do our bit to enhance community safety and security we have developed a Home security risk assessment. We believe this assessment will enable homeowners to better understand their security situation, enabling them to improve on their home security and peace of mind. With this initiative we believe we will be able help secure and empower communities and homeowners alike.

The BGA home security assessment is a multifaceted tool comprising either a free online risk assessment or the more comprehensive home security vulnerability / risk assessment which will be carried out by one of our security specialists at your home.

Conduct your personal high-level home security risk assessment by following the prompts below. To complete the risk assessment, you will be required to answer all the below questions. (The questionnaire should take +-5 min to complete)

Once complete you will receive a provisional risk rating for your consideration. You will also be able to request the support of a security specialist to validate your assessment results, via our comprehensive onsite evaluation of you home.

The results of your assessment can be submitted to your insurance partner who will decide whether to maintain or further discount your current premium.
